HONEYMOON HOTSPOT DESTINATIONS

SRI LANKA


Whether you're a lie-by-the-beach kind of couple, or adventure sports junkies, there's something for everyone in Sri Lanka.


Where to stay: After the trials and tribulations of organizing a wedding, you and your beau might be ready for some TLC. The Fortress in Galle is just the ticket. Situated on the beautiful Koggala beach and close to Gall Fort, one of Sri Lanka's most famous historical sites, this Ayurvedic resort and spa is renowned for its soothing surroundings.


Keeping busy: Outside the walls of this tranquil retreat, Galle is full of action. From the buzzing nightclubs to the all-day markets, there's never a dull moment.


BODRUM, TURKEY


It might not be a typical choice but Bodrum in Turkey is fastbecoming a hot spot for those looking for the three R's - rest, relaxation and romance.


Where to stay: Check out the new exclusive Movenpick Resort in Bodrum. Nestled snugly in the hills of Bitex and overlooking in Gumbet Bay and Aegean Sea, the panoramic views in this area are some of the best in the Med. 


Keeping busy: If you're feeling a bit adventurous, take a trip to the region's historical points of interest. The Tomb of King Mausolusand the cast of St. Peter are big favourites with tourists.


THE DEAD SEA, JORDAN


Having recently received World Wonder status for the ancient city ofPetra, Jordan has become a hotbed for culture vultures and intrepid explorers. A fave spot is the Dead Sea, in the west of Jordan.

Keeping busy: When you get bored of floating in the Dead Sea - something every tourist in Jordan must do - it's worth visiting the country's capital, Amman. Forty minutes from the Dead Sea by car, the city boasts fantastic sites such as the Citadel and the Jordan Archaeological Museum.


VENICE, ITALY


Who needs a shell-strewn beach in the tropics, when there's a sinking city within reach? Venice, with its delightfully old-world charm, has always been on of Italy's most popular destinations. It's the perfect romantic backdrop for starry-eyed couples.


Where to stay: Considered to be the finest luxury hotel in Venice, the Hotel Danieli has been accommodating honeymooners for over six centuries. You're in good company as this is an A-listers' haunt. As well as Elizabeth Taylor, Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg, this is where the red carpet regulars retreat during the Venice Film Festival. Who knows - you might actually spot a famous face in the lobby!


Keeping busy: In addition to looking longingly into each other's eyes, newlyweds can take a gondola rice, cruise the Grand Canal on local waterbus (vaporetto) and take trip to the neighboring island of Murano.


KERALA, INDIA


With its beautiful beaches, lakes, backwaters and houseboats, Kerala has emerged as a paradise location for tourists in recent years.


Where to stay: The choice of hotels in the area is vast, but if you're looking for something a bit different check out The Oberoi Motor Vessel Vrinda. This backwater cruiser allows you to soak up the beautiful scenery as you meander through the canals and lakes. Cosy cabins and a choice of international and Indian cuisine complete the experience.


Keeping busy: If you fancy a day or two on-land, it's worth checking out one of the many wildwife parks in the area. Eravikulam National Park which was set up specifically for the preservation of endangered animals, is a favoured stomping ground for tourists.

PHUKET, THAILAND

Keeping busy: Phang Nga Bay is right on your doorstep, so if you get tired of living it up in paradise, take a trip to Sri Phang Nga Forest park, which received national park status in 1981. EGYPT, ALEXANDRIA
