Nds R4 Guide: First Time User

Revolution for DS (R4DS) is one of the most popular storage devices in the market. Just few moments of setup time, it will then expand the functions of your Nintedo DS in so many ways. Play games, movies, music and more, in just one card.

What’s included in R4DS pack?

1 R4DS cartridge
1 cartridge holder
1 firmware CD
1 microsd card reader

Normally a microsd card is not included in the pack. However, there are websites that are offering combos which already include microsd card but for a higher price.

Step 1: Download Latest Firmware

Go to www.r4ds.com and download version of the latest firmware available on your local computer. It contains the menu files for the R4 card. The download contains 2 folders ("_system_" & "moonshl") and two files ("_DS_MENU.DAT" & "_DS_MSHL.NDS").

Step 2: Insert your microsd card to the microsd card reader then plug into your computer.

Step 3: Format the microsd card

All contents of the card will be deleted so make sure you save somewhere else whatever important data you have in the card.

Step 4: Copy Files to the Card

Simply drag and drop the four files mentioned above in your miscrosd card. This completes the setup process. After doing so, you can then drag and drop all .nds file (games), mp3 and other media items directly to your card.

Step 5: Unplug from your computer

Remove miscrosd card reader from your computer then take out the microsd card. Insert your card to R4DS cartridge slot and then to your Nintendo DS.

Step 6: Power up your Nintendo DS

Turn your DS and wait till it loads up the menu screen. For games you can choose .nds file or multimedia if you want to play your mp3’s.
