2) The most expensice nut in the world is the macadamia nut. The macadamia tree produces nuts only after it's 7-10 years old, requiring fertile oil and heavy rainfall. These nuts have a very hard seed, nut once it's open it receals a creamy white kernel containing up to 80% oil and 4% sugar. They cost more than USD 30 per kilogram.
3) The Beluga caviar, marketed as the almas caviar in Iran, is the most expensive caviar in the world. This is not the typical black one. The word "almas" is Iranian for diamond. Beluga caviar comes from a fish over 100 years old, that is virtually unchanged for 120 million years. The luxurious caviar comes from the oldest survivor of the dinosaur and ranges in price from more than USD 5,000 per kilogram in the US.
4) The most expensive mushroom in the world is the white truffle. The mushroom has its origins in the Langhe area of the Piedmont region in northern Italy and are sold between USD 2,900 and USD 5,800 per kilogram. The record price for this truffle was USD 330,000 for 1.5kg of truffles, paid by Stanley Ho, casino owner in Macau.
5) The French potato "La Bonnotte" is the most expensive potato in the world. Each year, only 100 tons of this top quality potato are cultivated and collected solely on the island Noirmoutier. The potato fields must be fertilised only with seaweed in a climate shaped by the nearby sea. Since this type of potato is almost extinct, the cost of a kilogram can reach up to USD 725.
6) The worlds most finest and most expensive coffee is Kopi Luwak. The coffee comes from the Indonesian island of Sumatra and the total annual production is only around 500 pounds of beans. It's priced at USD 300 per pound or more.
7) At a whopping price of USD 12,000, the most expensive pizza is found in Italy with generous toppings of caviar and lobster. The pizza has a diameter of 20cm and Louis XIII Remy Martin cognac poured over it.
8) The most expensive omelette in the world costs USD 1,000 and consists of 10 ounces of sevruga caviar, a whole lobster, and six eggs. It can be ordered at the Le Parker Meridien restaurant in New York.
9) The Chocopologie by Knipschildt is the most expensive chocolate in the world. It is only available through order and costs USD 2,600 per pound. This handmade chocolate truffle contains a black truffle and 70% Valrhona cacao.
10) The current record for the most expensive tea is held by a rare Chinese green tea called Tieguanyin, which costs USD 3,000 per kilogram, approximately USD 15 for a single cup.
