WINDOWS GO-SLOW

There could be many causes, but the most likely is simply the amount of work that Windows has to do and how much space it has to work in. Some free options:

--> Increase the amount of disk space Windows uses for temporary storage while it's working.

--> Cut the number of programs loaded at startup.

--> Cut the number of programs and fonts installed (if unused they're just cluttering up the Registry, the big catalogue that Windows checks any time it has to do anything).

--> Visual effects like shadows on the mouse pointer can impact performance - let Windows choose the optimum setup.

--> Clean your disk regularly using the Disk Cleanup tool.

--> Optimise the disk's contents regulary using the Disk Defragmenter tool. To find out more about any of these just use the Windows help facility. If you have Windows Vista you'll find some useful Performance Information. And now some modest expenditure.

--> Windows is a memory hog. But it more memory and it should perk up a bit, though anything over 2MB is likely to produce little or no effect.

--> You might try using an all-round Registry cleaner and performance tweaker tool like PC Pitstop or ErrorSmart. Back up the Registry first, though - sometimes these Registry cleaners have been known to remove vital entries without good reason.
